IBC Pricing to increase
$10 on September 1, 2004
Over
the past few months, we have experienced a substantial increase in the cost
of acquiring raw materials to recondition IBCs. We have also been impacted
by increases in utility, employee benefits and transportation costs. Myers
Container has had to buy more new raw materials, especially new bottles,
than previously was the case in order to keep up with customer demand. We
have had to reach further in our search for raw IBCs, including bringing in
units from other countries. There is a severe shortage of washable raw
totes throughout this part of the country and the competition for raw units
is driving up the cost of acquisition.
Due
to these factors, effective immediately our prices for raw or finished totes
must go up by $10.00 per unit. This is an across the board increase to all
customers, whether it be a filler, reconditioner or distributor. We believe
the lack of available good IBCs is at least partially due to the increases
in steel and plastic this year. As fillers see prices skyrocket on new
steel or new poly drums and the drum reconditioners run out their available
inventory, fillers are making the switch to alternative packages, leaving
all of us in short supply and fighting for raw material.
